Southwest Jefferson Community Partnership

The Louisville Metro Alliance for Youth was awarded a Drug Free Communities Grant to work in the areas of Fairdale, Pleasure Ridge Park and Valley Station.

The goals of this work are:

  1. establish and strengthen collaboration among Louisville Metro Alliance for Youth partner organizations in support of the community’s effort to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth;
  2. reduce substance abuse among youth in southwestern Jefferson County, KY, and, over time, among adults by addressing the issues in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.

The Partnership will achieve its goals by implementing these strategies:

  1. Meet with community members to better assess gaps and resources in the community;
  2. Create and maintain a website that will provide valuable information for community members;
  3. Provide information and education to parents, and community members about the dangers of underage tobacco use, underage drinking, marijuana and methamphetamine.

Tasks:

  • Media - Create and keep the webpage up-to-date with information for parents and community members; and work on creating a brochure to promote the work of the Partnership and the Alliance.
  • Parents & Community Education - Provide information to parents, and community about the dangers of underage tobacco use, underage drinking, marijuana and the use of Methamphetamines.
  • Youth - Work with youth to prevent and reduce use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drugs.
  • Mapping the Community - Assess the resources and gaps in the community to prevent and reduce the problems of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
